This is very simple yet for some very hard to understand;
You are in a relationship, which really doesn’t suit you. You no longer feel like you have anything in common with the other person. This other person who once excited you now bores you. But you choose to stay for the children? To save face? Because you’re getting on a bit? Because although things are not quite right- it’s better the devil you know! So in the meantime, you just ‘pretend’ that life with this person is great!! It doesn’t matter that this person shows no interest in you or your work. It doesn’t matter that you struggle to have meaningful conversation. It doesn’t matter that sex is the only thing that you have together. It doesn’t matter that this person does not nourish you, and encourage you to grow into the person which God made you to be.
You have a career which a long time ago interested you but never really stimulated you. In fact now it’s really painful and frustrating to know that you spend most of your time doing something, which destroys your soul. But you choose to stay in this career for the money? You’ve got a certain lifestyle to maintain.. You can’t possibly downscale? For recognition? To show that you are ‘successful’ in society’s terms? Because you don’t want to be seen as a failure? Because you’re afraid of failing because if you choose to follow your heart everything around you will collapse? So in the meantime, you choose to stay within your comfort zone, your perceived place in society. It doesn’t matter that you’re just doing the job instead of living out the passion. It doesn’t matter that your output is standard. It doesn’t matter that if you died tomorrow, you would regret it knowing that your life could have been better if you just did what you wanted..
